Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov on Wednesday said it was unfortunate that US President Donald Trump was mocking at the “essential” role India is playing in rebuilding the war-ravaged Afghanistan and noted that both Delhi and Moscow are "fully in sync" over their Afghan policies.
Russian Minister: Delhi and Moscow are very much in sync on future of Afghanistan
“It is very unfortunate that a very artificial competition is going on. We understand the essential role of India regarding Afghanistan. We all welcome India and Indian representatives, beside we maintain bilateral dialogue with Afghanistan,” Ryabkov said, alluding to similar approach that India and Russia have on Afghan-owned political processes.
The Russian minister is visiting Delhi as a speaker at the Raisina Dialogue. He will also talk to the external affairs ministry on a host of issues like NSG membership, Iran, BRICS cooperation and disarmament.
Speaking to a select
group of journalists, he said both India and Russia were highly concerned with the situation in Afghanistan and the two countries were very much in sync “on this very important issue”. The two are exploring joint projects in Afghanistan and have held two rounds of talks since November on the situation there.
“We are committed to working on this issue and also wish that there would be less artificial competition,” Ryabkov said, referring to Trump’s remarks that what India is doing is just five hours of the total work that the US is doing in Afghanistan.
Talking about the growing threat to outer space, the minister said: “We will see some country will have their presence in the outer space by targeting from such places.” He said Russia is at the forefront of providing solutions to such a type of threats.
He also informed that the delivery of S-400 missile defence systems will be delivered to India as scheduled without any doubts.
