A source in IEC said that the vote would be delayed for reforms and allowing the possible candidates more time to prepare required documents for registration. The delay also comes amid stepped up efforts for peace with the Taliban.
The delay will be officially announced tomorrow (Thursday).
Earlier, a member of IEC, had said that the international community had given no assurances for funding the upcoming vote.
A source had said that the international community had been pushing for changes in the leadership of IEC following October parliamentary election that was marred by technical and organizational problems.
Nearly 50 individuals have received information kits from IEC after candidate registration began on Saturday, but no one has registered yet.
